What to expect at Telstra Perth Fashion Festival

For eighteen years the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival has been one of Australia’s premier fashion events and this year it is set to put WA designers front and centre once again.

From September 20 to 25 the festival will transform the city’s streets, venues and galleries into runways and pop-up boutiques — bringing a little bit of London, Paris, New York and Milan to Perth.

It’s always a fantastic week, with dedicated fashionistas and even only occasional fashion observers dressing to impress, rub shoulders, schmooze  and quaff champagne.

The serious business of fashion

But there’s serious business, too. The festival has garnered an international reputation for fostering some of Australia’s most sought after creative talent and showcasing Western Australian designers on a global stage.

This year Telstra Perth Fashion Festival will feature runway shows from leading local, national and international designers including Empire Rose, Manning Cartell, Whole9Yards, Dion Lee and Flannel. It promises to be an unforgettable fashion journey.

Venues taking part this year include Perth Concert Hall, Forrest Place, the Art Gallery of WA, Carillon City and the Pan Pacific. While many events are ticketed, there are also fantastic community events running before, during and after the main festival week that have been designed to make everyone feel a part of the festival.

A large program of events

Check out the Fri-YAY Market on September 9, for instance. It brings the best of the WA fashion industry together under one roof. Featuring stalls from WA-based designers, artists, retailers and creatives, the market offers Perth shoppers unique access to buy locally designed and made clothes, jewellery, accessories and much more.

Or take a look at the Fashioning Technology series, running during October at Raine Square. It features ‘technologised garments’ — taking innovation to the highest level and ‘making a future that may seem out of reach relevant to fashion today’ by applying emerging technologies and advanced materials to textiles, garments and accessories.

An exciting time to be in the city

The festival is always an exciting time to be in and around the city.  It is one of those annual events, like Fringe World, that changes the feel of the city. It’s the kind of vibrancy that attracts people to live in the inner city areas. If you’d like to live close to all the action, check out Finbar’s Aire West Perth.
