Aire at heart of action, no matter which way you walk

A 20-minute walk is a pleasant way to get around and scientists reckon it might even lengthen your lifespan. So it’s not a bad yardstick for an easy distance to walk from home with the idea you might actually get somewhere good. For people who will live in Finbar’s centrally located Aire West Perth development when it’s complete, a 20-minute stroll will take them to some of the most exciting locations the city has to offer, no matter which direction they’re headed. Here’s our quick guide to the great things to see and do just a short walk from Aire West Perth.

Walking north:

Five minutes: Welcome to Watertown Brand Outlet Centre. This shopping centre boasts countless top brand outlets, easy parking and great hours – it’s even open on Sundays.

20 minutes: Dine out in the hip heart of Leederville. With great new hangouts like Low Key Chow House and Blue Flamingo and long-time Perth stalwarts like Duende and Fibber McGees, it’s a great spot to spend an afternoon.

Walking East:

Nine minutes: Perth Arena opened in 2012 to much fanfare and is now touted as the best venue Australia has to offer. It’s also home to the annual Hopman Cup and has hosted major acts including Pink! and Elton John.

13 minutes: His Majesty’s Theatre hosts opera, comedy and ballet in a beautiful heritage building on Hay Street. For the pop culture fans, coming up is the Little Shop of Horrors in August.

20 minutes: Perth Cultural Centre is the cultural heart of Perth, hosting Fringe World and Perth International Arts Festival hubs during summer and events such as wine shows and NAIDOC Week in the winter months. It is where the State Theatre Centre, library, art gallery and museum meet and is the eastern gateway to Northbridge.

15 minutes: In the heart of Northbridge is China Town — the perfect place to go for dinner with friends. Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese restaurants abound.

13 minutes: With the sinking of the railway lines that have divided the City and Northbridge for more than a century, the Perth City Link project is revitalising the inner city. With new offices, services, shops, a bus port and public open space, the area is going to become a popular place to spend time.

20 minutes: Elizabeth Quay is the new action-packed venue in Perth city, hosting events such as the WAtoday Night Noodle Markets and the upcoming 50-tonne fire-breathing spider that will ‘invade’ the quay as part of the Arcadia exhibition in November.

15 minutes: The Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, overlooking Elizabeth Quay and the Swan River, hosts dozens of conventions, performances, productions and exhibitions every year.

Walking West:

10 minutes: Black Tom’s is legend in the Perth business scene. Deals are done and discussions are had over strong coffee and good food. Anyone who is anyone has met at Black Tom’s for a discussion at one time or another: It’s where political advisers, mining magnates and lobbyists meet to hammer out agreements. 20 minutes: For the footy fans, Aire West Perth is walking distance from Domain Stadium, a great way to get to and from the footy without having to battle the crowds. Of course, that’s not all; these top restaurants and cafes also fall within the 20-minute walk circle, showing that Aire West Perth truly is at the heart of the action.
