As West Perth evolves into a vibrant inner-city hotspot, local cafes and restaurants are ensuring residents and office workers alike have plenty of delicious breakfast options right on their doorstep. Here are six places we highly recommend.
High Bench Espresso is known for its coffee, but people who come for the coffee stay for the food. It’s open from 7am weekdays.
With breakfast options like freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices and avocado smash, High Bench has plenty of options for the health conscious. But it’s the naughty treats that prove most hard to resist. What these guys can do to a doughnut is calorific heaven.
Table 78 is another Monday through Friday venue — as so many are in West Perth — but it’s open from 7am and is a much-loved spot for those who regularly go out to breakfast.
The breakfast menu is filled with all the delicious breakfast fare you’d expect, including eggs done every way imaginable, a full English breakfast, eggs Benedict, and lighter options including muesli and sourdough.
Gordon Street Garage burst onto the scene a few years ago and quickly became Perth’s most popular breakfast haunt, with locals happily queuing up for a table in the converted auto workshop.
Open from 7am weekdays and 8am on the weekends, Gordon Street Garage has a breakfast menu that ranges from the hearty favourites to light and healthy options. The weekend brunch menu is served until 3pm.
Crema bills itself as a “modern Italian/European restaurant in West Perth” — so you just know the coffee is good here. Open from 6.30am weekdays, it’s a popular spot for working breakfasts with colleagues.
The Crema kitchen does eggs just about any way you could want them but the breakfast menu also includes a range of delicious options served on toast — including smoked salmon, pumpkin and fetta, avocado, and mushroom.
West End Deli is a popular and established West Perth haunt, loved by locals and office workers alike. Open from 7am every day, it’s funky, stripped-back interior is a cosy place for a morning coffee and a bowl of porridge.
The Deli considers itself a “neighbourhood bistro” and the brunch menu includes simple staples like granola and waffles right through to more modern and exotic options, including stretched curds, seared kale, and black bean and pork rib cassoulet.
OK, so this one is cheating a bit, but it is something really special. Zamia Café is located on May Drive in Kings Park — just a short walk through beautiful natural bushland from West Perth. The restaurant overlooks the manicured green lawns of the park. It’s a stunning setting for a delicious breakfast.
It’s open from 8am every day and the breakfast menu changes with the seasons. With plenty of options for the gluten-free and vegetarian customer, Zamia serves up traditional breakfast fare — like eggs Benedict, fruit salad and pancakes — and more contemporary offerings, like zucchini and gruyere fritters and quinoa.
